Top-10 Beaches for Families

Coquina Beach

Coquina Beach

At last, the official first day of summer is here and what better way to kick off summer than by thinking about spending long days at the beach, building sand castles and jumping in the waves. Recently, Family Vacation Critic named the 10 Best Beaches for Families. Take a look at their picks:

Beach Haven (Beach Haven, NJ):  You and your kids will love the sandy beaches and summer concerts, as well as the arcade games, water slides, miniature golf and rides at Fantasy Island Amusement Park.

Bethany Beach (Bethany Beach, DE):  Surf, build sand castles or do some body boarding before visiting the local farmers’ market and taking a $.25 trolley tour of Bethany Beach.

Coquina Beach (Nags Head, NC): Here you’ll find a wide beach with shallow water, making for an ideal retreat with small children. Older kids will love fishing, surfing and checking out the shipwreck.

Coronado Central Beach (Coronado, CA): Take in the glittery sand and enjoy skim boarding in the warm waters before visiting the Hotel Del Coronado, the inspiration for Disney’s Grand Floridian hotel.

Fort De Soto Park (St. Petersburg, FL): Birdwatching, camping and picnicking are just a few of the favorite activities among families visiting Fort De Soto Park. Some say it’s the best kept secret in Florida.

Poipu Beach Park (Koloa, HI): Go snorkeling or try out kayaking at Poipu Beach Park. Or, simply spend time collecting rocks and shells along the beach. Keep your eyes open for monk seals and sea turtles.

Sand Harbor Beach (Incline Village, NV): Nevada may be a land-locked state, but you’ll still find sandy beaches and coves to explore along Lake Tahoe. Try boating and be sure to hike the nature trails.

Siesta Beach (Siesta Key, FL): Named the #1 beach in the U.S. just two years ago, Siesta Beach is a great spot for listening to wild parrots and checking out wading birds, like the snowy egret and great heron.

Skaket Beach (Orleans, MA): Enjoy clean sand, warm waters and fantastic sunsets. Little ones will love exploring tidal pools in search of sea creatures, even sand dollars.

Stewart Beach (Galveston Island, TX): Keep your eyes open for volleyball tournaments during the summer, and enjoy plenty of room on the beach to play with your kids.
