Can’t go to Europe this summer? Yeah, me neither. However, if you’re planning a road trip, you can take in a little bit of Italy, Greece and France. No passport or outrageously expensive plane ticket required. Take a look below to check out where you can see Michelangelo’s David, the Parthenon and even the Eiffel Tower without having to brush up on your language skills or exchange your money for Euros.

ItalyHead to Niles, Illinois to check out a half-size replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Just minutes from Chicago, the Leaning Tower of Niles was originally built to store water for outdoor swimming pools and today is a favorite among road trippers.

Next, go south to Louisville, Kentucky to see a 30-foot tall gold replica of Michelangelo’s David, one of the most famous statues of the world. Keep driving to St. Augustine, Florida and you’ll find a second copy of Michelangelo’s David at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium. It’s an exact 18-foot replica weighing n at 20,000 pounds.

GreeceHead to Centennial Park in Nashville, Tennessee to see the Parthenon, as well as a re-creation of the 42-foot statue of Athena. Both the building and the Athena statue are full-replicas of the originals found in Athens, Greece.

Alabama claims a “Little Corner of Greece” as well in Wetumpka at Jasmine Hill Gardens and Outdoor Museum. There you’ll find a full-scale replica of the Temple of Hera ruins found in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Flame.

FranceIf you can’t make it to France, you’ll find the world-famous Eiffel Tour in various spots across the United States. Head to Las Vegas and take a ride 46 stories above the city level at the Eiffel Tower in front of the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. Or, head to Kings Dominion in Virginia or Kings Island in Ohio. Both theme parks feature a one-third scale replica of the Eiffel Tower.

Have you stopped at any of these famous European landmarks during any of your travels across the United States? Let me know in the comments section below.

We’ve been to the Parthenon in Nashville and we’ve driven past Kings Island on numerous trips. Another Eiffel Tower replica we’ve enjoyed is in Paris, Tennessee.

  2. I’ve been to the Parthenon in Nashvegas a few times, it’s a great stop for big and little kids!

Thanks, Mary! I’d never even heard of it before, but it looks so neat. I’ve got to check it out next time I’m in Nashville!
