We left New Orleans yesterday morning after a couple of days of fun and a visit with family. We swam in the rooftop pool at the Sheraton New Orleans, ate beignets at Café du Monde in the French Quarter, saw parade float props being made at Mardi Gras World and met my brother’s new baby. Oh, and we ate some bugs at the Insectarium. Yum.

Here are a few photos from our stay in New Orleans. More to come when I put together a wrap-up of our first week on the road this weekend.

One of the streetcar lines ran right in front of our hotel on Canal Street.

Of course, we had to make a stop for powdered sugar-covered beignets at cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde.

The one-hour guided tour at Mardi Gras World was a great way to learn more about the celebration and how the parade floats are made.
