It’s hard to believe that the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics will kick off on Friday. If you’re like me and have had London on your mind for the last few weeks (really, London has been on my mind since last year’s royal wedding), then here are a few free apps and ebooks you may want to check, some of which are only free for a limited time.

Not for Parents London (iPad): This ebook is perfect for kids ages 8 and up who want to get a glimpse of London through intriguing stories and full-color photos. The Lonely Planet ebook is normally priced at $9.99, but is free through 8/17

London-The City (iPhone, iPad, iTouch): This walking tour app provides a perfect stroll through London. The audio tour is designed for those walking the route, but can also be enjoyed from home. Download the free Lonely Planet Travel Guides app, then select “Audio Walking Tours,” and choose “London-The City.” Normally $2.99, the in-app guide is free through 7/30.

London for Less (iPhone, iPad, iTouch): Available from SmartSave, this new app is perfect for those on-the-ground in London since it includes a searchable street map, travel guide to top locations and an official London Underground Tube Map. You’ll also find discounts to popular restaurants and attractions.

Time Out: London (iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android): This popular free app offers loads of recommendations to help you get the most out of London, including top restaurants, attractions and nightlife. As a bonus, you can even browse the insider’s guide, including the maps, entirely offline.

Virgin Atlantic’s London City Guide (iPhone, iPad, iTouch): This brand new app features fashion tips for getting the “London Look,” as well as multiple itineraries, with names like “A Royal Tour” and “London for Foodies.” You’ll also find details on popular family activities, as well as top tips for visiting interactive museums and even escaping London.

NBC Olympics (iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android): If all you really want to do is follow the Olympic events as they’re happening live from London, then check out the free NBC Olympics app. You’ll find news, schedules, results, medal counts, video and more.
