School’s Out: Take the Kids to Learn About Golf

School’s out – or nearly out (my kids still have another week) – for a lot of kids, so now is the time to start getting serious about what to do this summer to keep busy. For me, it won’t do to have my kids glued to their iPads every day.

As much as I can, I try to get my kids outside and active. Fortunately, here in the Washington, DC area there’s a lot that we can do outdoors, like hiking along trails at regional parks and renting boats to paddle at local lakes.

When we’re not being active ourselves, we like watching sporting events, like minor league baseball games, even golf tournaments, like the upcoming Quicken Loans National at TPC Potomac in Maryland, which will host golf pros from around the world from June 26 to July 2.

During the school year, my kids are so wrapped up in their own team sports, like basketball and lacrosse. During the summer, I try to expose them to sports not yet on their radar, like golf.

Even better, the Quicken Loans National isn’t just a “watching” event, it’s a “doing” event since the organizers offer a variety of free clinics, interactive games and fun activities to keep even the smallest fans (and fans-to-be) busy and engaged.

Take a look at five reasons to take your kids to the upcoming Quicken Loans National pro golf tournament:

1. Kids Get in for Free.

It’s hard to beat free, and kids 12 and younger get in to the golf tournament for free. Free kids’ grounds tickets can be picked up on-site at the Quicken Loans National box office. Kids must be accompanied by a ticketed adult.

2. Teens Get a Half-Price Discount.

Don’t leave your teens at home. You can purchase discounted tickets for your teens (ages 13-17). Those can be picked up at the Quicken Loans National box office too. Teen tickets are just $10 each, a 50% discount (more on some days) off adult ticket prices.

3. There’s a Free Youth Golf Clinic.

Guess what, there’s more free stuff. On Wednesday, June 28, the Quicken Loans National will host a free youth golf clinic on the driving range at TPC Potomac. Kids can learn from golf pros the basics of golf and even pick up tips to up their game (for those who’ve played before).

4. Kids Will Love the New Kids Village.

Keep kids entertained at the new Kids Village. Look for mini golf, interactive games and plenty of other activities to keep your kids busy and engaged with the sport of golf.

5. Event Proceeds Benefit College Access Programs.

While this may not directly benefit your kids (yet), all proceeds from the Quicken Loans National benefit college access programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation, which supports youth education through the TGR Learning Lab and Earl Woods Scholar Program.

Even better than the above, the Quicken Loans National golf tournament provides the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with dad, so you may want think about tickets as a Father’s Day gift. 🙂
