If you could take your kids anywhere, where would you go? I’ve been thinking about this question a lot lately, especially after seeing some great trips posted on a few of my favorite travel blogs.  Here are a few trips with kids that top my list.

Peru: Last Friday, Ciao Bambino put up a great post on taking kids to Peru for the adventure and an experience like none other, which included stops in Lima, Puno, Lake Titicaca and Tanquile. I briefly considered taking my kids to Peru this summer, and while I still want to go, I’m glad I read this post because I can now tell it’s a trip that’s a few more years away, largely due to lengthy train and car journeys  (I just don’t think my kids are ready for 12 hours in the car!).

Costa Rica: This is another hot spot for me. My parents were just there a couple of years ago and they said it was fabulous and incredibly affordable. Just yesterday, Travel Savvy Mom put up a great post that answered all my questions about Costa Rica, including the best time to go and the ideal trip length. The post even addressed health and safety issues, which is key when you’re traveling with kids.

Boston: Maybe not quite as exciting as Peru or Costa Rica, but I’ve been loving the posts over at The Mother of All Trips on her trip to Boston last summer. I’m planning to take my brood on a two-week road trip from DC to Boston this summer with stops in Philadelphia and New York, and have definitely been taking notes on what to see and do with kids in Boston.

So these are just a few of the cities on my list of places to take my kids. What’s on your list? Let me know in the comments. I love to hear about other people’s family travel dreams and wishes.

  1. so so so hard to say. we’re moving to chile soon, so I have to say Easter Island sounds pretty cool right now to me.

WOW. I hear that Chile is so beautiful, and Easter Island would be amazing. Definitely on my bucket list too. 🙂

  2. Our family travel bucket list is a bit long but high up there if money wasn’t an issue would be an African safari. How wonderful would it be to see all those animals? Bavaria Germany with its quaint villages and castles are a close second. Good luck with your summer trip.

Mary, I know what you mean about a long bucket list. There’s just so much to see out there! I agree that a safari as well as a trip to Germany would be amazing. I’m hoping to do both as my kids get older. For now, while they’re 8, 6, 4 & 2, it’s domestic travel, but I think our roadtrip to Boston and back (to DC) should be highly educational and a lot of fun. I can’t wait! 🙂
