HomeAway: Helping Provide Shelter to Hurricane Sandy Victims

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there’s so much you can do for those affected, like help to package meals or donate $10 to any number of charities by sending a text message. There is much being done by experienced relief organizations to get victims food, medicine and supplies, but I was excited to learn today about what HomeAway is doing too to help provide shelter to those impacted by the hurricane.

If you’re unfamiliar with HomeAway, they are one of the largest vacation rental marketplaces. I’ve used them to book rentals in Orlando and Puerto Rico, and plan to use them again when I go to Austria next month.

To help those displaced by the storm, HomeAway has set up a Superstorm Sandy community within HomeAway to enable their members to list deeply discounted properties to help those who need shelter. Most properties are available at a fraction of their regular list prices (many as low as just 10% of the list price), and some are even available for free, which is a great help to those who need a place to stay.

The Superstorm Sandy community is small but growing, and there is so much need. I encourage you to forward this post along to anyone who either has a property available on HomeAway, or on sister sites VRBO.com, VacationRentals.com or BedandBreakfast.com, or to those looking for shelter right now.

What have you been able to do to help those in need following Hurricane Sandy? Even the smallest gestures are so appreciated. There is much need at this time.
