Giveaway: 100 Places That Can Change Your Child’s Life

100 places** This giveaway is now closed. Thanks to everyone who entered!

I love books that help me identify great travel experiences for my kids, whether pondering great works of art at the Louvre in Paris or exploring the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. A couple of my favorite books are 500 Places to Take Your Kids Before They Grow Up and 1,000 Places To See Before You Die

So, naturally I was excited to check out 100 Places That Can Change Your Child’s Life, which highlights the most worthwhile places to go with children and even gives tips on how to most enjoy them. For example, when visiting Paris, the author writes “don’t overdo the sightseeing.” Instead, he suggests taking in just one cultural activity each day and spending time lingering in cafés watching Parisian life go by.

Further, when visiting the Louvre, for example, don’t try to see everything on display or you’ll run your kids ragged. Instead, “narrow your visit to periods or genres that most interest your children.” This is good advice regardless of the museum you are visiting.

I really liked that 100 Places That Can Change Your Child’s Life not only highlights where to go and what to do with your kids, but also how to make the most of the experiences. For example, before visiting Mount Rushmore, the author suggests showing children a photo ahead of time and challenging them to think of as many who, what, where, when, how and why questions before their visit. This will help them better absorb what they learn from the exhibits and rangers on-site at Mount Rushmore.

Each chapter also features a “Know Before You Go” section, listing books for kids or parents, as well as movies and music to check out before your visit. For example, before going to Dinosaur Provincial Park in Canada, pick up National Geographic Kids Ultimate Dinopedia for a kid-friendly look at dinosaur facts before you go. The author includes insider tips and fasts facts, as well.
