It’s that time of the month, time for Bank of America cardholders to get in free at 150 museums, zoos, science centers and botanical gardens across the country. Just head to any participating cultural institution this weekend (April 7-8) and show your Bank of America credit or debit card to get one free admission.

Now in its 15th year, the Museums on Us program is a fantastic way to share arts and culture with your children. Among the organizations offering free admission this weekend:

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art (Amherst, MA)

Marbles Kids Museum (Raleigh, NC)

New York Hall of Science

Philadelphia Museum of Art

The Phillips Collection (Washington, DC)

Shedd Aquarium (Chicago)

While free admission is limited to the Bank of America cardholder, most museums have free or discounted admission for children. Take the Art Institute of Chicago, for example. Adult admission is $18, but kids under 14 are free, so a visit for one adult and one child is completely free this weekend. Here is the full list of participating museums and cultural organizations.

If you’re planning to go this weekend, look online to see if you can buy tickets for non-cardholders ahead of time. The Bronx Zoo offers a 10% discount on tickets purchased online. You may also be able to find printable coupons on the websites of the museums themselves or the local tourism bureaus (I saw a $2-off coupon for the Dallas Museum of Art at TourTexas.com).

Do you like to take your kids to museums and cultural organizations in your area or while on vacation? I’d love to hear your strategies for saving money while enjoying the best that these museums and institutions have to offer.

We take our kids to museums. We use the list of reciprocating memberships to get in free or reduced. This allows us to use our own memberships at our local museums to get in for free more than 90 miles away from home. Just call ahead to check! Zoos and aquariums have a list too!
