What did you do on your last cruise with your family? Okay, I’ve only been on one cruise, but I remember going to the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet each morning, getting dressed up for dinner and disembarking every so often for shore excursions. Oh, and we played a lot of Bingo (it was an Alaskan cruise, so it was a bit chilly outside, and the crowd skewed somewhat older).

I’m sure if you’ve ever taken a cruise, you probably have all the same memories. But, have you ever gotten off a cruise ship, and then headed to a warehouse to sort warm clothing and school supplies for low-income children or gone to a food bank to clean food store shelving? Probably not.

If you’re planning a cruise with Crystal Cruises, there are several such shore excursions you may want to consider. Each one lasts around four hours and allows you and your kids to give back as a part of your much-deserved holiday.

Take a look at some of the organizations where you can make a difference as part of Crystal Cruises’ “You Care, We Care” program.

Backyard Bounty: Working with this hunger relief organization in Santa Barbara, California you’ll spend a few hours gathering and organizing produce for distribution to low-income residents. (Pacific Holiday)

Makapu’u Beach Native Coastal Plant Preserve: Learn about Hawaii’s coastal plants and spend time helping to preserve 14 native plant species. (Grand Pacific Interlude)

Cradles to Crayons: Spend time sorting and distributing items to keep low-income and homeless children warm and ready to learn. (New World Discoveries)

Feed Nova Scotia: Repack produce, sort food donations, clean food storage shelving and scrub refrigeration facilities at this hunger relief organization. (multiple voyages)

Romero House: Roll up your sleeves and help out in the kitchen of this non-profit organization that helps low-income residents get back on their feet. (New World Discoveries)

The space available for these shore excursions is extremely limited, so if you’re interested, definitely check into these well in advance. Have you ever done a volunteer excursion on a cruise or as part of a land tour package? Let me know. I’d love to hear about your experiences.
