Earlier this month, I told you about Bank of America’s Museums on Us program, which offers Bank of America customers free admission to more than 150 museums, zoos and science centers nationwide once a month (the next free weekend is June 4-5). Well, today I learned about the Blue Star Museums initiative, which offers active duty military and their families free admission to over 1,300 museums between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Museums participating in this program include children’s museums, fine art museums, history and science museums, and even nature centers. Among the museums offering free admission:

To gain free admission, active duty military (or spouses of deployed active duty military) must present a valid ID, such as a DD Form 1173 or 1173-1 ID Card. Up to five immediate family members (spouses or children) of the military ID holder may also get free admission. There is no limit on the number of visits eligible families may make to participating museums. Here’s a full list of participating museums.

Have you seen any other great summer travel freebies for active duty military? I’m going to keep my eyes open, and if you’ve taken advantage of the Blue Star Museums initiative, I’d love to hear about your experience.
