Sure, I like Curious George as much as the next person, but I had no idea about the various stores, festivals, exhibits and art shows all dedicated to this curious little monkey. Clearly there is quite a following for George and the Man with the Yellow Hat (oh how I wish I knew his name). Take a look at these six spots where you and your family can get your Curious George fix.

Curious George Cottage Family Festival (Waterville Valley, NH): Head to New Hampshire 8/11-12 for a two-day festival weekend filled with family-friendly activities centered around Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat. Enjoy a BBQ lunch with Curious George, photo opps with the characters, a traveling barnyard, face painting, a Curious George story hour and more.

The Curious George Store (Cambridge, MA): Apparently there is only one Curious George Store in the entire world, and it’s in Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA. Who knew? You’ll find loads of Curious George books, of course, but also t-shirts, dolls, toys and wall decals. They’ve got lots of other non-Curious George kids’ books too for those who aren’t as enamored by the little monkey.

Curious George Goes to Town (Orlando, FL): Okay, I’ve yet to go to Universal Studios in Orlando, so maybe that’s why I had no idea about the huge town-like playground devoted to Curious George books. Little ones can explore the colorful Animal Show tent, navigate the cartoonish playground and even launch soft foam balls at friends and family at the Big Yellow Hat’s Ball Factory.

The Adventures of Curious George (Hollywood, CA): For west coast folks, you can also head to Universal Studios in Hollywood to check out Curious George. Be sure to bring a swimsuit if you plan to get near the five hundred gallon water dump. Similar to Orlando, you can also unleash thousands of soft foam balls in the play area.

Curious George: Let’s Get Curious (St. Paul, MN): Stop by the Minnesota Children’s Museum through 9/9 for a traveling exhibit all about Curious George where kids can learn about math, science and engineering. Upon entry into the exhibit, kids will find themselves on an urban street, and then in the middle of Curious George’s neighborhood.

Curious George Saves the Day (Jackson, MS): While this traveling art exhibit featuring nearly 80 original drawings of the world’s most popular monkey wrapped up its tour in Mississippi last week, keep your eyes open. This exhibit has already stopped by the Chrysler Museum of Art (Virginia) and the Jewish Museum (New York), so it may be on its way to your town soon.

Have you heard of any other Curious George events or exhibits that would be top picks for families? Let me know in the comments section below.
