Camp Finder iPhone App

Wherever your family vacation plans take you this summer, there’s definitely an iPhone app available that will make your trip go even smoother. Whether helping you find campgrounds, the nearest beach or the subway route to take to get to your favorite museum, here are six must-have iPhone apps to add to your phone this summer before you leave the house.

  • Going camping this summer? The brand new Camp Finder app makes planning a camping trip easy by putting 14,000 U.S. campground and RV parks right in your hands. Search campgrounds by name or location, then get details on rates, amenities, photos and reviews. This $1.99 app is great whether you’re mapping out a trip weeks in advance or need to find a campground on the fly.
  • You know I’m a fan of the our national parks, so I was excited to see the National Park Maps HD app for just $4.99 that features trail maps for 15 of the top U.S. National Parks, including Acadia, Yosemite and the Grand Tetons. You’ll find not only trails, but also waterfalls, lakes, and other points of interest. Plus, you can mark your campsite or car on the app for an easy return.
  • For summer road trips, the Roadside America app is a must. For $2.99, you’ll find in-depth info and maps for the craziest must-sees in one of six regions of the country. Pay an extra $5.99/year to access the entire U.S. Find 6,700 attractions in 70 categories, complete with editor’s reviews, photo galleries, hours and maps. A nice way to mix in quirky side trips (and keep the kids entertained!).
  • Headed to the big city this summer? Then get the free HopStop app, which tells you how to get where you need to go whether by bus, subway, taxi or on foot. Best of all, if you’re really not sure where you are, the app can give you directions from your current location using GPS. I can’t wait to try this out when I take the big girls back to New York later this summer.
  • Just landed and not sure how to get to the nearest beach? Then take the $.99 Beach Finder app with you. The Locate Me feature will pinpoint your location and in seconds you’ll have a list of the closest beaches and a map to help you and your family get there.
  • If you like guided audio tours, but don’t want to shell out the cash for each individual tour, the HearPlanet app is a great alternative. The $3.99 app uses the GPS on your iPhone to pinpoint where you are and then finds places of interest near you. HearPlanet then plays articles on the landmarks, historic sites and cultural spots right around you.

So, what are the must-have apps that you have on your iPhone or iPod Touch to help make summer travel more relaxed? I’d love to hear about the best Android apps too.
