5 Must-See Life-Size Gingerbread Houses

gingerbread houseWe may have enjoyed making our little gingerbread house as a family on Sunday at Gaylord National outside Washington, DC, but what we created is nothing compared to these life-size gingerbread houses that have popped up at hotels across the country. Take a look at five worth checking out:

River City Casino & Hotel (St. Louis, MO)
Head over to the River City Casino & Hotel between November 22 and December 24 so that you and your kids can check out the life-size gingerbread house. It’s 14-feet tall, 10-feet wide and is made from more than 450 pounds of dough. Even better, you can dine inside the house for a $20 reservation fee, all of which goes directly to the Center for Hearing & Speech to purchase hearing aids for those in need. You and your kids will even be able to decorate an individual shingle on the house.

The Fairmont (San Francisco, CA)
On November 30, The Fairmont San Francisco will unveil their own life-size, two-story gingerbread house. Expected to be more than 22-feet tall and 23-feet wide, the hotel’s gingerbread house will be on display through January 1. Guests can also enjoy the 23-foot-tall Christmas tree in the main lobby, as well as a celebrated Nutcracker collection. Or, enjoy the Nutcracker Holiday Tea, a seasonal tea service with Nutcracker trinkets and gingerbread cookies for little ones.

Gaylord Texan (Grapevine, TX)
At the Gaylord Texan, keep your eyes open for a seven-foot gingerbread house, then get a hug from Gingy, the gingerbread man from the Shrek movies, before decorating your own gingerbread house. All part of the Lone Star Christmas, you and your kids will also love the 54-foot tall rotating Christmas tree, the hand-carved ice sculptures at ICE! and the DreamWorks-themed scavenger hunt.

Walt Disney World (Orlando, FL)
If you’re Walt Disney World-bound, stop in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa as they celebrate the 15th anniversary of the life-size gingerbread house in the hotel lobby. Then, hop on the monorail for a trip to the Contemporary Resort to take in the enormous gingerbread tree that stands complete with ornaments and candy canes. Make one more stop at Epcot to see gingerbread delights in the Land Pavilion created by the on-property pastry chefs.

The Ritz-Carlton (Vienna, VA)
Stop by The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner, on November 29 at 2 pm for the annual Gingerbread House Opening Ceremony. Located on the third floor, guests can walk around both inside and outside this sugary creation crafted by the on-site pastry chefs. Opening day festivities will include holiday pastries, hot spiced cider and hot cocoa. The gingerbread house will be open through January 2. Many other Ritz-Carlton properties have had life-size gingerbread houses on-site, so you may want to call ahead.
