Want to take your kids to a museum that’s fun, quirky, educational and all about one of their favorite (or not so favorite) foods? Then, stop in one of a handful of fun museums in the U.S. that are dedicated to food, whether the potato, the banana or even SPAM. Take a look at five museums worth checking out:

Idaho Potato Museum (Blackfoot, ID): Whether you prefer your potatoes baked, mashed or served up as french fries you may want to stop in the Idaho Potato Museum. Inside you’ll find the history of the potato, a short video on how the potato industry developed, and even the largest potato chip made by the Pringle’s Company.

Pizza Brain (Philadelphia, PA): October is National Pizza Month, so stop by Pizza Brain, the first-ever pizza museum, which houses the world’s largest collection of pizza memorabilia (as certified by Guinness World Records). As a bonus, there’s even a pizzeria attached to the museum.

SPAM Museum (Austin, MN): Okay, I don’t know too many people who like SPAM, but this looks like a fun museum to check out nonetheless. Here you’ll find SPAM trivia, advertising, and a variety of displays, including a World War II exhibit, a game show quiz and a Monty Python tribute.

National Mustard Museum (Middleton, WI): Just west of Madison, you’ll find an entire museum dedicated to one of the most popular condiments. You can view more than 5,400 jars of mustard from all 50 states and more than 70 countries, as well as vintage mustard ads and the Great Wall of Mustard.

Washington Banana Museum (Auburn, WA): Who knew, but apparently the banana is the #1 selling fruit in the United States, and now there’s a museum dedicated to all things related to bananas. Stop in to check out nearly 4,000 artifacts, folk art, ads and signage all centered around the banana.

Have you visited any of these museums? I’d love to hear your feedback. And, if you’ve visited any other museums devoted to food, please let me know which ones you’d recommend.

Got a minute? Kidventurous has been nominated for two family travel awards and we would love your vote. You can find out more in this recent post about the awards. Thank you!
