Seriously, do you know anyone who doesn’t have a cell phone? I don’t. To be honest, almost everyone I know has an iPhone or an Android. So of course they have apps galore, and apps provide great opportunities to save money, especially when you’re eating out on vacation. Here are five free apps worth checking out:

BiteHunter: This free app aggregates restaurant deals from thousands of sources in real-time, so chances are good that you’ll find a great dining deal at a restaurant within a few blocks of your current location. As a bonus, BiteHunter has teamed up with Yelp and Local Eats to provide reviews and ratings.

Groupon: Get Groupon on your phone and look to the bottom of the app for the Now button. Tap that and you’ll see Groupon Now with lots of real-time local deals valid today only, like $20 to spend on sushi for only $10. Groupon Now deals aren’t available in every city, but they are a great way to save money when on-the-go if you’re in one of 31 participating U.S. markets.

Kids Meal Deals: Kids-Eat-Free deals are everywhere. You just need to know where to find them, and it can be tricky when you’re in a new city. I love the Kids Meal Deals app because it helps you find the nearest restaurant offering free kids meals by day of the week. You can also find restaurants by name or location, as well as get driving directions and share deals with fellow travelers.

MeNetwork: This free app helps you find the best deals in more than 70 U.S. cities, including Orlando, FL and Austin, TX, which just this week launched their new mobile discount program with MeNetwork called Mobile Austin. Just choose a restaurant and show the discount on the screen to your server, like 15% off your purchase at Bar Chi Sushi.

Also, be sure to look out for local apps, like JustMealDeals, which covers South Florida in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. I just spotted a buy one entrée, get one entrée free at a local restaurant, which is great savings for on-the-go families. Be sure to also check out the Deal of the Day.
