10 Awesome Things About LEGOLAND Florida

legoland floridaThis may not come as a surprise, but yes, everything is awesome at LEGOLAND Florida. We spent the day there last week – our first time – and had such a great time exploring all the rides, shows and attractions. There’s also a waterpark at LEGOLAND Florida complete with a wave pool, raft ride and water slides of all kinds, but it was closed for the season during our visit.

If you go to LEGOLAND Florida, and I highly recommend that you do, take a look at ten of the rides, attractions and experiences that I consider to be the most awesome at the theme park. But, before you go, be sure to pick up LEGOLAND Florida discount tickets. Have fun!

1. Mindstorm Classes. In the Imagination Zone section of the park, look for 45-minute LEGO Mindstorm classes that are scheduled throughout the day. “We Do” classes are for kids ages six and up and enable kids to build alligators, lions and airplanes. Meanwhile, “AstroBot” and “Rover Rescue” classes are focused on building and programming robots. These are for kids ages nine and up. Sign up early.

legoland florida recycling

2. Recycling Efforts. Did you know that LEGOLAND Florida has more than 180 recycled-made benches? Each one is made from 800 recycled milk jugs. I noticed that when I went to sit down on a bench. I later learned that each of the parks 310 trash cans are made from 330 recycled milk jugs. The park also has map recycling stations to discourage tossing park maps into a trash can at the exit. Fantastic.

3. Healthy Meal Choices. During our visit, we took a lunch break at I-Zone Panini. Not only were the paninis quite tasty (I had the Roast Beef & Horseradish Panini), but I was generally impressed by the healthy fare. I-Zone Panini offered four different paninis, including a vegetarian option, as well as two different salads and panini kids meals. The park map also identified which restaurants featured nutritious choices, like salads, gluten-free and fresh wraps.

legoland florida miniland

4. Miniland. Okay, I think Miniland was my favorite part of LEGOLAND Florida. I could have wandered around for at least an hour or more. Miniland features scaled down versions of Las Vegas, San Francisco, Washington, DC, even the Daytona International Speedway, each made out of LEGO bricks. Even better, many of the cities featured buttons you could press to be sprayed with water from a fire hose or make the people in the city dance.

5. LEGOLAND Hotel. The new LEGOLAND Hotel at LEGOLAND Florida may not open until next summer, but I’m excited nonetheless. The hotel was under construction when we visited (naturally), but when finished it’s expected to offer 150+ hotel rooms with LEGO-themed rooms (kingdom, pirate & adventure), early park access and nightly children’s entertainment.

legoland kid sized sinks

6. Kid-Sized Sinks. I know, I know, this is so random, but when I took my five-year-old son to the restroom, I was so impressed by the kid-sized sinks. They were the perfect height for my little man, which is why I had to take a photo. My son is looking at me like, “Mama, what are you doing?” Anyway, thank you LEGOLAND for not making me boost my son up on my knee to reach the soap and faucet.

7. Cypress Gardens. In 2010, the folks behind LEGOLAND bought Cypress Gardens and built up LEGOLAND Florida alongside the beautiful botanical gardens. Now, Cypress Gardens is just one section of the park, but it’s worth a stroll with or without kids. I took a walk on my own and enjoyed the peace and tranquility. Take 30 minutes to enjoy the lush foliage, garden statues and huge banyan tree.

legoland ford driving school

8. Driving School. Ignoring the fact that my seven-year-old’s car did not work, the Ford Driving School inside the park is a lot of fun. Designed for kids ages 6 to 13, kids learn about driving rules, then are set out on a driving course where they abide by stoplights and yield signs. They can even earn an official LEGOLAND driver’s license at the end. There is also a Ford Jr. Driving School for kids ages 3 to 5.

9. Ticket Pricing. Last week, we went to several of the Walt Disney World parks, as well as Universal Studios Orlando and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. I bought LEGOLAND Florida discount tickets for my in-laws on Viator and the per-ticket price was by far the lowest of all the area theme parks but I found the experience to be just as fun.

legoland build a race car

10. Build-a-Race-Car. In the same space as the Mindstorm classes, you’ll find the Build & Test area where kids can build race cars from LEGO bricks. Kids can then test them out on ramps or race with other cars. We spent at least one hour building and racing cars. It was very difficult to pry my kids away, but they had fun (even if they were a bit competitive!).
