Every summer, I try to pick a new amusement park or water park to visit with the kids. Fortunately, living in the Washington, DC area, there are quite a few from which to choose (Kings Dominion, Busch Gardens, Six Flags Great America, etc.) and it’s fun to see the new rides that the kids gravitate toward as they grow.
Recently, I was tapped by TravelChannel.com to be a part of the Travel’s Best panel of advisors to pick the best amusement parks and water parks of the year. Other panelists included Robb Alvey of Theme Park Review and Steve VanDis of the Travel Channel show, Insane Coaster Wars. Definitely a diverse mix of enthusiasts.
Among my picks:
Aquaventure at Atlantis in the Bahamas (slide two). What’s not to love about a water park situated in paradise complete with fast slides and a lazy river. Plus, the Mayan-themed splash zone for kids is simply fantastic.
Hersheypark in Hershey, PA (slide four). This is one of my faves because you can spend time racing down roller coasters, splashing at the water park and learning about how chocolate is made all in the same day. As a bonus, look for free samples next door at Hershey’s Chocolate World.
Other top picks include Noah’s Ark in Wisconsin Dells, WI and Tokyo DisneySea in Japan. For the complete list, visit Travel’s Best Amusement Parks and Water Parks 2014 at TravelChannel.com.
