Twitter Tuesday: Who to Follow to Help You Save Money on Your Next Family Vacation

We all want to save money on vacation, particularly since costs can really add up once you start thinking about airfare, accommodations, car rentals, etc. Then multiply some of these costs, like airfare, when you start adding more kids to the mix (I have four kids, and that gets expensive fast), and you’re quickly looking to the web for ways to trim costs. To help you out, here are 15 of my favorites to follow on Twitter to help save money on family travel.

@BudgetTravel: I love the magazine, Budget Travel, and on Twitter, they share even more great money-saving tips and deals, including a daily #traveldeal. Speaking of #traveldeal, follow this hashtag on Twitter to stay on top of the latest travel bargains.

@CityDiscovery: This is a good one to follow if you’re planning to do some sightseeing tours in the U.S., Europe and beyond. You’ll even get bonus discounts when you “like” their Facebook page.

@CruiseDeals: If you’re a cruiser, this is a good one to follow on Twitter for great deals on cruises, the latest on ports of call and new offerings on various cruise lines to help you choose the right cruise for you.

@Fareologist: Part of Bing Travel, this is a good one to follow for travel news, flight deals and tips on the best time to pick up airfares.

@GetATravelDeal: I think the name of this Twitter account says it all. You’ll find lots of good deals, particularly on warm weather hotels and packages right now. Perfect to follow on those cold winter days!

@HotwireCruise: Planning a family cruise for 2012 or 2013? This is a good one to follow for hot deals on cruise packages, with multiple tweets every day with the best deals on cruises. Also, check out sister-site, @Hotwire_Deals.

@ShermansTravel: Their motto is “Hand-Picked Deals. Expert Advice,” and it definitely shows in their Twitter feed. With multiple updates every day, you’ll find hot deals on cruises, airfares and vacation packages.

@SmarterTravel: Follow these guys for the inside scoop on travel deals. They’ll let you know when a good deal really is a good deal. You’ll find advice on destinations as well as the best of the best, like winter getaways, beaches and cruise ships for kids.

@ThriftyTraveler: Mary VanMeer, a self-described Thrifty Travel Expert, tweets out great travel tips and advice every day, like how to figure out whether it’s cheaper to fly or drive and ways to save on your next airline ticket. A great resource.

@TravelBargains: I like this Twitter feed because it focuses on package deals, like seven-day Caribbean cruises and ski packages that include ski rentals and lodging. Also, check out sister-site, @TravelDeals.

@Travel_Ticker: Follow these guys for more great hand-picked deals at a discount. You’ll find quite a few tweets every day to help you save money on cruises, car rentals, all-inclusive vacation packages and more. You’ll also find lots of deals on hotels.

@Travelzoo: All day long, Travelzoo tweets out the most up-to-the-minute deals on hotels, weekend escapes, car rentals and more. Perfect for last-minute travelers.

@ViatorTravel: Followed by more than 100,000 people on Twitter, these travel experts know a good deal when they see one. Not only do they tweet deals, but they also share loads of great advice and tips on what to do in various locations around the world.

Do you follow anyone in particular to help you save money on family travel expenses? Or, have you used Twitter to help you plan a trip or save money on your vacation? I’d love your feedback, so please leave a comment.
