I frequent children’s daily deal websites, like Zulily and Totsy, stopping by once every two or three days to see what they’ve got that my kids might like. I recently picked up some snorkel sets and swimsuits for my girls, as well as a bunch of educational workbooks. My favorite recent find though has been the new National Geographic Kids travel books that will come in handy this summer. Take a look.
National Geographic Kids Ultimate U.S. Road Trip Atlas: This fun, colorful book goes state-by-state sharing with kids five cool things to do in each state, roadside attractions, and in some cases, traffic laws you won’t believe. Each state also features a driving map of the state and a “boredom buster,” which is my favorite. Kids need to use either the car’s navigation system, a smartphone or a camera to capture something about the state, like a photo of a ghost town in North Dakota.
National Geographic Kids National Parks Guide U.S.A.: Similar to the Ultimate U.S. Road Trip Atlas, this colorful book goes park-by-park sharing five different ways to explore each one (e.g., take a hike, go stargazing). It also features a checklist for each park to make sure that you and your kids complete the absolute must-dos when you visit, like going swimming near Firehole Falls at Yellowstone National Park and checking out the view from Inspiration Point at Grand Teton National Park.
My kids love the National Geographic Kids books and I’ve picked up a number of other titles, including Ultimate Weird But True, Kids Almanac 2012 and Wild Animal Atlas. Each book is well-designed and my kids really enjoy picking these up and learning from the fun facts.
If you can, keep your eyes open for these kids travel books to pop up again on Zulily and Totsy, but they are well-priced on Amazon as well. We’re roadtripping to Boston this summer and my kids have already started to flip through the Ultimate U.S. Road Trip Atlas to get a better feel for the states and sites we’ll see along the way.
